â[ â15â ]â
We didnât know what time it was. At some point the electricity must have gone out because all of the clocks, although working now, were blinking or showing different times.
I was exhausted. Since the creeps had blanketed the sky with their weird black cloud, we couldnât even guess what time of day it was by the position of the sun.
âIâm so tired,â I said with quite possibly the biggest yawn of my life. I had no idea how Iâd actually fall asleep with all of those creeps out there. If I was going to die, maybe it would be better if it happened while I was asleep. That way at least I wouldnât see it coming.
âMe too,â Roman said, stretching his arms up and his legs outward.
âI donât think I could sleep even if I wanted to,â Ben said as he peaked out between the curtains. âOne of you can take my bed, and the other can sleep in my parentsâ bed.â
âAwkward,â I said grinning at Roman. It wasnât like I really cared either way, but the idea of sleeping in his parentsâ bed felt a little weird to me. But Benâs parents had known Roman for a long time, maybe it wouldnât feel as weird to him as it would to me. What if they came home, and I was in their private space, just sleeping in their bed? They probably wouldnât care under the circumstances, but to me it would still feel, well, awkward.
Roman nodded and directed his eyes towards the sofa. I didnât want to be alone in one of the bedrooms anyway, but then again I didnât really want to be out on the sofa near the big window either. When I yawned again, I knew Iâd have to make a choice.
âYou can take Benâs bed,â I said as I laid down on the sofa. That way Ben could sleep in his parentsâ bed. I thought that made the most sense although Ben didnât seem to care one way or the other. If he was even going to try to get some rest.
âYou sure?â Roman asked pointing towards the hallway.
I nodded, my eyelids felt even heavier now that I was laying down. Roman left the room, stopping in the bathroom before making his way to Benâs room. Each blink took longer than the last. The only reason I wasnât sleeping was because I kept anticipating the creeps breaking through the window. I felt like I could actually see it happening each time I closed my eyes.
Ben disappeared from my line of vision for a moment but then he reappeared with a blanket. He gently spread it out over me and I moved my mouth to thank him but I wasnât sure if any of the words had come out. The last thing I remembered was Ben walking back towards the window. He resumed his post to keep watch while Roman and I slept.
